Important Note from Bob & Monica Masla, who run the Casa de los Artistas Retreat, regarding the violence in Mexico:

Something both Monica and I want to bring to your attention is the continued globalizing of violence in Mexico associated with all the drug wars, occuring mostly along the boarder towns, that has received so much media attention.  We have heard of many people scared to come to Puerto Vallarta or even a workshop here in the tiny fishing village of Boca de Tomatlan, (10 miles south), because of these unfortunate occurrences and the bad press that plays into people's fears and media predjuedices.  This has brought lots of hardship to the area and caused us lost business as well as not to mention sadness to see the effect on the local people and economy.

Just like the Swine Flu scare that had a devastating effect on both the local economy and us, (there was not 1 case of Swine Flu reported in the whole Puerto Vallarta region, where tourism dropped to 1- 3% - that's a devestating 1 to 3 rooms filled for every 100), similarly the "reports of Violence in Mexico", have had similar effects.

If you are choosing not to come to Puerto Vallarta, (2010 census pop. approx. 256K - that's without counting the tourist population), because of fear of violent attack, then you should not visit any U.S. or Canadian city with a population of 200,000 or greater, (i.e. Spokane Washington-208k, Orlando, Florida 238K, Colorado Springs, CO -416K, what to speak of cities like Montreal, Canada -3,500,000+, Washington, D.C. 601k, or Quebec, Canada -491K), because in reality, the satatistcs show you are in a far greater risk of violent attack in those regions than in Puerto Vallarta!

On August 30, 2011, the Puerto Vallarta city mayor had released the murder statistics in Puerto Vallarta. He has reported as follows: The Banderas Bay area has an average of 6 murders each year.- Orlando, Florida has Approx. 19 per 100K -thats over 40 per year, Spokane, Washington approx. 12 -both of them with populations smaller than P.V., what to speak of large cities, like Washington D.C., (murder rates off the hook) , Montreal, Canada, etc. To most of you, that means you are in greater risk staying at home than visiting here! -What to speak of the charming fishing village of Boca, like going to a rural town in Vermont, or Oregon.  You can certainly read both sides of the "story" all over the internet, but we suggest talking to some of our recent guests and hear about their feelings of safety, watch our video interviews and take a look at this news analysis - "Mexico Responds to Concerns" that specifically mentions P.V.

The good news for you is - we still have rooms available for most of our workshops.  So if you are interested in a wonderful workshop/vacation, in an incredible area of beauty, inspiration and safety, (as well as helping wonderful people in a hurting economy - us included) - Please join us this winter at the Casa.

Please feel free to call us for further information or to sign up by phone - 413 625-8382.

We wish to thank all of you who have been to the Casa or are yet to come!  We wish for you all the blessings and magic that art and life have to offer during the holidays and in the coming New Year.

Hope to see you this winter in the Boca.

Warmly,
Monica & Bob
