Erotic Recovery From Neglect, Abuse and Infidelity; This teleclass will discuss ways that couples and individuals suffering from sexual and erotic symptoms that result from neglect or abuse, either in the past or during or during the relationship, including sex addiction, sexual anorexia, and other maladjustments of erotic hyper or hypo.  Specific attention will be spent on infidelity, either with others or with the self as a framework to talk about what is healthy recovery?  What does erotic recovery look like and how do you help couples and individuals find it?  Classes will include didactic material, experiential exercises, and clinical applications, as well as on phone, online and email conversations with presenter and participants.

There are many reasons someone experiences hypersexuality. The term Sexual Dependency Syndrome (SDS) allows for all the possibilities, including sexual addiction. Sexual fantasies and desires are the erotic code underlying addiction. Learn how to make a differential diagnosis, provide accurate and empathetic treatment for the patient and their partner, and examine your own countertransference which often interferes with treating sexually disordered patients.

Week Four - Case Review - focus on three couples or individuals and their treatment.

Dr. Joe Kort, is a psychotherapist and Board Certified Sexologist who specializes in sexual identity issues, IMAGO relationship therapy, sex therapy and sexual addiction. He is the author of two books on gay male identity and relationships, Gay Affirmative Therapy for the Straight Clinician and has a chapter for female partners who are involved with men who have sex with men in Mending a Shattered Heart. NEW SESSION - Part 3 (you do not need to have attended Part 1 to sign up for this teleclass)

For therapists, doctors, couples, singles and anyone who wants to explore the way boundaries of fidelity are defined, justified, lived, and negotiated.  The course includes didactic material, experiential exercises, clinical applications, and in depth conversations.

  BEGINNING IN MAY 2010

Participants will learn how to:

• Create a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment to work with secrets, confidentiality, transparency and truth-telling.

• Structure the therapeutic process flexibly to help couples deal with the crisis of infidelity and move forward in their relationships, whether the affair is disclosed or not.

• Process accountability and help couples re-envision their relationship in the aftermath of an affair, including case examples of erotic recovery from affairs.

• Identify how monogamy and fidelity can be negotiated in couples using psychotherapy, sex therapy, and dynamic couples dialogue.

• Learn the multicultural meanings of affairs, monogamy and fidelity and how they are integrated into all forms of relationships in the course of the life cycle.
