Sex Addiction; Hypersexuality Disorder and Sexual Dependency Disorder There are many reasons someone experiences hypersexuality. Sex addiction and Sexual dependency syndrome is common in the treatment rooms of psychotherapists in all modalities, and difficult to treat because of the controversy over diagnostic categories and what we should call it.
Relationship addiction, internet and porn addiction, masturbatory compulsion, and other forms of sex addiction will be addressed. Treating the spouse or partner of the sex addict and the types of treatment available as well as their efficacy will be included in this workshop. We will explore the meaning and treatment of sexual dependency and learn how to provide accurate and empathic treatment for the patient and their partner and examine how our own countertransference often interferes with the treatment of sexually disordered patients.
Class will include Case Review, focus on real couples or individuals and their treatment, didactic material, experiential exercises, and clinical applications.
Tammy Nelson PhD is a sex and relationship expert, an international speaker, an author and a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience working with individuals and couples and the author of a book for couples designed to help increase the passion in their relationship. She holds a Doctorate in Philosophy, a PhD in sexology from the American Academy of Clinical Sexology a Certified Sexologist, a Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, is a Registered Art Therapist, and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, a Certified Imago therapist, and an Advanced Clinician. She is the author of several books including, "Getting the Sex You Want; Shed Your Inhibitions and Reach New Heights of Passion Together" as well as “What’s Eating You? A Workbook for Anorexia and Bulimia.”
