Review: USA Network’s new drama SATISFACTION

I was recently asked to screen an advance copy of USA Network’s provocative new original drama SATISFACTION that will debut this Thursday, July 17 (tomorrow!) at 10pm EST. As a sex and relationship expert, they asked me to take a look at the pilot and give some feedback on what I thought about this episode. As in most expert commentary requests I receive when asked by a producer or a journalist to review a show, I am always hesitant, what if I don’t like it? What if it’s trite, or boring? But, I have to admit, I really liked this one.

SATISFACTION was actually really accurate, intriguing and best of all, entertaining. It reminded me a little of Californication without the L.A. grunge glamour, with a touch of reality television, a plot I could relate to and a much nicer house than mine. And, the sound track was contemporary and hip and went great with the show.

The main characters are a married couple with a teenage daughter. (As a mom myself with teenagers at home, I could relate on a personal level.) The couple is struggling with stress at work, strain in their marriage and an ultimate monogamy crisis that is unique and will definitely spark lots of great conversations for anyone at home watching the show. I am anxiously waiting for the next episode, and debating if I should store them up and binge watch, or grab it right away to see what happens next.

I know if I was a consultant for the USA Network show SATISFACTION, I would use my influence to create deep drama and humor around the struggle of a couple that we can all relate to, and who find creative ways to mess up their lives and bring themselves back to one another. I think the producer, the director and the actors did a great job doing just that.

I really liked the show SATISFACTION and I am a pretty hard sell. Write to me and tell me what you think. Or better yet, come over for popcorn.
