Short Bio

Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. is a sex and relationship expert, international speaker, author, and a licensed psychotherapist with over thirty years of experience working with individuals and couples. In private practice she focuses on helping people of all ages, orientations, and genders find love, healing, and passion.

 

Tammy is a Board-Certified Sexologist, an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, a Certified Imago Relationship therapist, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and an ISTI Certified Sex and Couples Therapist. She devotes her time as the Director of the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute, teaches at several universities and hosts The Trouble with Sex podcast.

 

She shares her knowledge and experience as a therapist, supervisor, and instructor through numerous books. Dr. Nelson is the author of What’s Eating You: A Workbook for Teens with Anorexia, Bulimia, and other Eating Disorders, Getting the Sex You Want; Shed Your Inhibitions and Reach New Heights of Passion Together, The New Monogamy; Redefining Your Relationship After Infidelity, When You’re The One Who Cheats, Ten Things You Need to Know, Integrative Sex & Couples Therapy, and her most recent book, Open Monogamy: A Guide to Co-Creating Your Ideal Relationship Agreement.

 

Tammy’s publishing isn’t limited to books. She is the author of many eBooks including Six Weeks to Erotic Recovery as well as hundreds of articles on topics ranging from sexuality, desire, affair recovery, monogamy issues, open marriage, online infidelity, intentional divorce, passionate relationships, and everything related to couples. She has written chapters and introductions to several books and been asked to edit dozens of therapy publications.

 

She is a TEDx presenter and an expert in media outlets where her expertise is quoted including NY Times, NY Times Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, CNN, London Times and Time Magazine. She is on TV frequently on talk shows in the US, Australia, Ireland and Brazil. Tammy founded the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute (ISTI) to offer certification training and individual teleclasses and webinars for therapists in the field of psychotherapy, sexuality, and human development. Tammy developed and created innovative training programs for ISTI that utilize top experts and teachers in the field of psychotherapy to instruct students and provide CE credits for certification through AASECT and APA. She and her co-instructors utilize their expertise to teach hundreds of hours of teleseminars and online classes in the field of human development and sexuality.
