An ISTI CSCT Supervisor offers supervision for the Certified Sex and Couples Therapist (CSCT) designation and the Certified AASECT Sex Therapist, Counselor, or Educator, depending on their specialty training.

The ISTI-certified CSCT supervisor is a post-graduate level licensed clinical mental health provider with a proficient level of expertise in both sexuality and relationship therapy who has trained with the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute and done advanced training as a post-graduate in specialized areas of supervision in their own field of study as well as sex therapy and integrative relationship therapy. The ISTI CSCT Supervisor is also well-versed in a range of contemporary integrative alternative treatment interventions.

The ISTI CSCT Supervisor is versed in countertransference and the self as therapist.

An ISTI supervisor offers you:

  • Group and individual supervision and to cover the core competencies necessary to achieve certification

  • Guidance in a variety of situations, lifestyles, identities, and sexualities a therapist may encounter in their clinical practice including

    • Treatment of sexual dysfunction, disability, and chronic illness

    • How to treat sexual variation and development through the lifespan

    • Sexuality and disability

Students are required to complete 50 or 60 hours of supervision depending on their certification pathway. For CSCT, students need 30 hours group/20 hours individual. For Dual certification, students need 30 hours of group/20 hours individual. Students can have more than one supervisor but should have one main supervisor to manage their certification process.

Individual Supervision

Supervision with Dr. Tammy Nelson is:

  • Limited to 4 participants (for groups) to provide optimum participation

  • Designed to support sex therapists, educators, and counselors toward AASECT certification

Group Supervision

Group Supervision provides valuable perspectives and insight not traditionally available during Individual Supervision. Dr. Tammy directs each Supervision group session in order to:

  • Provide each participant with time to present cases and follow-up

  • Allow time for each participant to ask questions and learn from other participants

  • Encourage experiential intervention and competency

Maximum participation is encouraged. Clinicians with all levels of experience and backgrounds are welcome to participate, and all dynamics and approaches welcome. Optional resources may include reading material, videos, for advancing sex and couples therapy skills.

Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. is the Director of the Integrative Sex Therapy Institute and has been a licensed sex and relationship therapist in practice for over thirty years. She teaches at several Universities, is a TEDx speaker, and is the host of the podcast The Trouble with Sex. Tammy is a Board Certified Sexologist, an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Imago Relationship therapist, and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.

Gail Guttman, LCSW, CST

Gail Guttman, LCSW, has been a Certified Imago Therapist since 1994 and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist since 1984. She has been twice recognized by Washingtonian magazine as a “Top Therapist” in sex and couples therapy. Gail is also an AASECT CE Provider, AASECT Certified Sex Therapy Supervisor and an Imago Clinical Consultant. She is passionate about helping therapists to integrate couples and sex therapy and welcomes different theoretical orientations in order to help each therapist find their own path.

Therapists who receive consultation with Gail experience a welcoming approach to all types of theories, as well as an opportunity to integrate different theoretical frameworks. Hani Miletski, Ph.D., MSW, Hani Miletski is a sex and relationship therapist in private practice in Bethesda, Maryland with over 26 years of clinical experience. She is certified as a Diplomate of Sex Therapy and as a Sex Therapy Supervisor by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Dr. Miletski has trained and supervised therapists and professionals in the field of human sexuality throughout the world, and has presented at various national and international conferences. Lee Phillips, Ed.D, CST

Dr. Lee Phillips is in private practice in New York City where he specializes in sexuality and chronic illness. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, and New York. He is a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Dr. Phillips has been in private practice for more than a decade treating a diverse group of patients searching for relief from the complications resulting from debilitating, and often overlooked, combination of illnesses. He has published in the Journal of baccalaureate Social Work, conducting a research study on LGBTQ-Affirmative Teaching at Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Understanding Program Directors Views. Dr. Phillips has been a featured expert in Teen Vogue, Healthline, Giddy, Greatist, and Men’s Health. He holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in behavioral health from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.

Daniel Rosen, LCSW-R, CST, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST) has been in practice for over 25 years working with a variety of populations. He completed training with the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team of the University of Ottawa in November 2019 and has been active in the Rochester Area Group Psychotherapy Society, the Center for Group Studies, and is a sex therapy supervisor in training. He has an independent private practice including group, individual, and couples counseling as well as providing treatment services for the Rochester Center for Sexual Wellness.
