Being a single father attracts more mates

In recent research out of Brazil, Dr. Gustavo Requena found that male harvestmen spiders (aka Daddy longlegs) take on the responsibility of guarding their female’s eggs after copulation. This was a signal to females that they were willing and able to stay home and care for the eggs, and it also attracted more female partners. Female Spiders like male single father spiders who care for their offspring.  Check out the article on NYTimes.com.
