Dafna Meir is being remembered for all of those she helped and taught. She was murdered last month in her home and is mourned by hundreds. The tragedy of her senseless death had brought an outpouring of grief, but it has also created spaces for people to honor her legacy.
Her life was dedicated to helping people, and as a religiously observant woman advocating for women to speak openly about sex she was influential in her field and in her country as an advocate for women and for life. She wanted to empower women to have knowledge of their bodies, and she worked hard to normalize women’s experiences and to make topics of intimacy and sexuality more approachable.
Dafna believed that knowledge is power and as such, taught women to know themselves. She explained to women how they are wired to experience pleasure, where they and their partner might find an organ known as the clitoris, and what an orgasm is. She taught this not only to married women, but any woman who wanted to know.
She will be missed.
