Knowing the best way to handle and express anger in a relationship is a challenge, but so important. We all get angry, but if we internalize because we believe it’s wrong to express it, we’ll pay the price sometime in the future. Dr. Laura Berman says it’s crucial to express authentic emotions (anger, sadness, fear, joy and sexual attraction). When anger happens, we often create our own stories and believe what we imagine about our partner. Speaking honestly helps clarify our reaction and provides an opportunity for explanation. Be open to hearing negative feedback, but then move on to appreciation.
