Gay Parents Face Same Sexual and Relationship Challenges As Straight Couples

Researchers at San Francisco State University recently examined sexual relationships and physical intimacy between 48 gay male couples with children, and found that there’s not much difference between their experience and that of heterosexual couples with children. Challenges included having the time and energy to work on the relationship in the areas of communication and sex. There were positive outcomes as well, with some participants reporting more respect and love for their partner as they’ve seen them parent their children. Gay parents were less likely to engage in “risky sexual behavior;” however, parenthood was not necessarily a factor in monogamy.
