Gen. David Petraeus’s affair has brought infidelity to the spotlight and everyone is talking about it. It’s no surprise with the divorce and infidelity rate over 50%! Rebuilding trust after an affair being framed as a slow, deliberate process rather than a single grand gesture rings true, especially the part about both people having to tolerate discomfort instead of rushing toward forgiveness. My own observation is that couples often skip the harder conversations because they want the relief of normalcy too quickly, which only pushes the real work further down the road.
