According to an article in USA Today, the biggest day of the year for online dating websites catering to people who are either married or in an unhappy relationship is the day following Valentine’s Day. One owner of a dating website speculates that the reason for this surge could be that people are either let down when their partner fails to do something spectacular for the holiday or that they find themselves overwhelmed by the pressure to be romantic. Could this idea of commercial romance be causing us to make romantic priorities that focus on what we want individually, rather than what the relationship needs as a whole?
