Marcy Miller experienced what many women experience after a divorce: women she considered to be close friends disappeared, the virtual gossip mill went into high gear, and she was no longer included in group activities. She writes, “My situation reminded them of how fragile their marriages were and how important it was not to lose their husbands, social status and their income.” She also felt her former friends viewed her as available and as a rival for their husbands. To cope with this situation, Miller suggests finding a new group of friends with whom you have more in common, as well as trying new activities.
