As a couples therapist, I have helped many couples navigate the choppy waters of separation and divorce with love, respect, and intention for themselves and each other. I really like Adriana Velez’s idea of a bucket list for after her divorce. She married young as a Mormon bride and didn’t experience much life and love before getting hitched so her personal to-do list after divorce is rich with self-affirming and nourishing actions that are good for her body, mind, and soul. I think this is a wonderful idea for anyone facing a major life change (marriage, a new baby, divorce, career change, empty nest, etc). Change of all kinds, whether it’s a wonderful thing or not, can be stressful and scary. Creating a bucket list, a to-do list of sorts, can be the inspiration and the reminder to treat yourself well through the stressors of life.
