What can gay couples teach straight couples about marriage?

Opponents of gay marriage have argued that allowing same-sex marriage will “destroy the institution of marriage,” but with divorce rates hovering and more people waiting longer to get married (if at all) is it really gay marriage or is it a shift in culture? An article in The Atlantic affirms what I have been saying in my book and in my lectures, arguing that granting same-sex couples the ability to marry provides benefits for family life and creates more stable relationships for children. Removing the gender from marriage challenges all of our stereotypes and our expectations for the roles of people of all sexual orientations.
